Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist to join our geo-environmental and geotechnical practice in our growing Manchester office. The position will apply engineering skills to projects involving geohazards, mining legacy, brownfield redevelopment, landfill and other water and waste containment systems while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Depending on experience, these may include:

  • Geo-environmental desk studies for a variety of areas including linear infrastructure projects (overhead lines, buried cables and pipelines) and mining legacy projects.
  • Site reconnaissance, geomorphological and geohazard mapping and asset assessments.
  • Mining Legacy – Risk Assessment, Investigation and Remediation
  • Ground investigation supervision including logging / sampling to BS5930 / EC7.
  • Project/task management of small to medium sized schemes.
  • Supervising graduate and junior staff.
  • Preparing ground models, producing analytical sections and engineering parameters.
  • Factual (GIR) and Interpretative report writing (GDR).
  • Geotechnical data analysis, processing and production of mapping.

 

Ideally you will have experience in:

  • Ground investigation, develop geotechnical parameters, slope stability analyses, earthworks design and foundation design.
  • Design delivery of the engineering geology /geotechnical elements of existing and future projects.
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings and technical specifications.
  • Fieldwork associated with design and construction services.
  • Co-ordinating with colleagues both in the regional and international offices.
  • Preparing fee budgets, proposals and resource requirements for projects.
  • Supporting less experienced staff, sharing knowledge and acting as a coach or mentor.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/geotechnical engineering/engineering geology, or a related field of study. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., C.Eng / C.Geol, or working towards chartered status) (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Familiarity with Holebase, SlopeW, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Equis would be very useful.
  • Regular fieldwork and overnight travel. (required).
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid UK driving license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
